Newly-signed Manchester United defender Daley Blind won the Golden Boot award for his performances for Ajax in the Eredivisie in the 2013-14 season.

Daley Blind was officially confirmed as a Manchester United player on transfer deadline day, but at the time he was not in England.

The 24-year-old was in fact in his native Netherlands attending an award ceremony in which he scooped the best prize (click here to read more).

Blind, a versatile footballer who can play both in defence and in midfield, was named the best player in the Eredivisie in the 2013-14 season.

New United manager Louis van Gaal also attended the ceremony, which is why he was not present in Manchester to welcome star striker Radamel Falcao in person following his season-long loan move from AS Monaco (click here to read more).

Blind had a truly great 2013-14 campaign that ended in him earning a big move to United. The Netherlands international was a key figure in Ajax’s Eredivisie triumph last season and played his part in the Oranje’s march to the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Finally on Monday, it was officially confirmed that Blind has switched from Ajax to United for a transfer fee of £14 million.

New Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal had much to do with the recruitment of his compatriot, whose versatility and understanding of the game will be a boon to the Manchester outfit’s quest to reclaim their place in the top four of the Premier League.

Will Daley Blind prove to be a good signing for Manchester United?
