Balotelli, Sanchez & Costa - the top five deals of the transfer window

Alexis Sanchez after first goal Arsenal

Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur feature.

Mario Balotelli - Liverpool, £16 million

In today's transfer market, when loan fees far exceed what used to be considered a huge sum for a permanent transfer, what odds would you have got on a vastly experienced 23-year-old going for just £16 million?

That's what Liverpool got themselves with their signing of Mario Balotelli from AC Milan this month, with many calling the deal an absolute steal.

The Italy striker's chequered past - and Milan's desire to sell - may have knocked a few million off his fee - but, on value alone, Balotelli is easily one of the signings of the summer even if Brendan Rodgers only gets one good season out of him.

Cesc Fabregas - Chelsea, £27 million

Arguably the best all-round import onto English shores this summer, Cesc Fabregas has already proven what he is capable of at Chelsea after just three Premier League games. Indeed, the 27-year-old has wasted no time demonstrating his eye for a killer pass and his ability to orchestrate games and create an endless amount of chances.

At £27m, the Spaniard did not come cheap. But his exceptional start suggests the Blues will be repaid every penny in terms of quality on the pitch.

Diego Costa - Chelsea, £32 million

Another Chelsea signing to feature in HITC Sport's top five, Diego Costa's impact after three Premier League games has simply been scary.

In his first two games for Jose Mourinho's side, Costa scored two goals in as many shots. In his next appearance for the Blues, the Spaniard scored twice at Everton despite not being fully fit.

Finally, there is a striker at Stamford Bridge that could be clinical enough to win them titles again.

Alexis Sanchez - Arsenal, £35 million

Arsenal fans have become accustomed to certain standards at the Emirates Stadium these days. That means at least one marquee signing every year.

This summer, it was World Cup and former Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez that brought a smile to Gunners fans' faces. At 25 - and with a pricetag of £35m - Sanchez is, quite simply, a world-class signing.

Eric Dier - Tottenham Hotspur, £4 million

Without a shadow of a doubt, one of the bargains of the summer transfer window. If Balotelli can be considered one at £16m, Eric Dier is undeniably one at a quarter of that fee.

Tottenham have needed a capable defender for some time and, at 20 years of age, Dier has a promising career ahead of him. And what's more, the versatile defender has already scored twice for Tottenham. A bright future lies in wait.
