Sherwood reacts to Tottenham's market activity, top four chances

White Hart Lane 4

Tottenham Hotspur spent close to £23 million in the transfer window on six signings but former manager Tim Sherwood doubts a top four push can be achieved.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood believes Mauricio Pochettino has begun his tenure as Spurs coach in a terrific manner.

Spurs currently sit in sixth place in the Premier League table having returned two wins and one loss - six points from a possible nine.

And Pochettino has also performed admirably in the transfer window having signed off on six deals, with Ben Davies, Michel Vorm, Eric Dier, DeAndre Yedlin, Federico Fazio and Benjamin Stambouli all arriving in North London.

In the new season to date, Tottenham Hotspur have defeated West Ham United, beaten AEL Limassol 5-1 on aggregate, slayed QPR 4-0 and come unstuck against Liverpool.

"When I saw the first two games I thought they ground it out… West Ham is not a good ground fo Tottenham then they played at home to QPR and it was very impressive with pace and attack and winning the ball back quickly," appraised Sherwood when talking to talkSPORT earlier this morning, Wednesday.

"It's a team who are playing with some identity and he obviously likes the high pressure game. I'm encouraged by the start.

"Say what you want about Daniel Levy, but he backs his managers in the market. They've signed six players.

"I don't know much about Stambouli, from Montpellier. But I know Fazio is obviously experienced. He is an Argentinean defender who won the Europa League with Sevilla and Pochettino obviously knows him well.

"It's good cover just in case Younes [Kabou] gets injured."

If there is one hurdle that Tottenham Hotspur could clip in the race for a top four place, it could be the dearth in quality options up front.

"I would say they are one striker short to really challenge for the top four," Sherwood concluded.
