Manchester United have bought a player in good form, if his display for Argentina in a friendly rematch of the recent World Cup final against Germany is anything to go by…
Angel di Maria, bought from Real Madrid last week in a deal that smashed the British club record transfer fee, provided Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero with a delightful pass, that the diminutive striker dinked past the German goalkeeper after running into space.
Di Maria found Aguero whilst exercising a cute pass that was floated over the top and, with the Manchester City star's finish, Manuel Neuer had no chance. Moments later, he again played provider as he set up resurgent Tottenham Hotspur attacker Erik Lamela (see below).
Manchester United spent £59.7 million on di Maria in order to create similar chances for their wealth of quality striking options such as fellow summer recruit Radamel Falcao, club captain Wayne Rooney and clinical Dutchman Robin van Persie.
Di Maria failed to return an assist at the World Cup earlier this summer, but did provide 11 goal-scoring opportunities in just five outings.
Last year, in La Liga duty with Real Madrid, he provided 90 goal-scoring chances (17 of which turned into assists) from just 28 starts.
The 26-year-old made his competitive Manchester United debut last weekend, in the underwhelming 0-0 draw with Burnley.
Out of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Manchester United's respective Argentines, who will have the best season at club-level?
