Andy Johnson has re-joined Crystal Palace on a short term deal until the winter.

The experienced 33-year-old comes into the side to provide cover up front and also to take up a coaching role which will see him assisting with the next generation of Palace youngsters at the club.

Johnson remains a popular figure at the club for his performances which helped Palace win promotion in 2004 following his move from Birmingham City.

Johnson revealed his delight after the move was confirmed for him to return under Neil Warnock.

“I am delighted to be coming back to a club that I love and have a real soft spot for. I would like to thank the gaffer and the chairman for giving me this opportunity and I am looking forward to helping this football club have continued success in the Premier League,” said Johnson.

The boss also revealed his delight and suggested that Johnson will be considered for first team action quickly, with his main job to add goals to the side.

“I am delighted to be bringing in a player with Andrew's experience and first and foremost he is here to score goals and I am sure he will get a chance to do that,” said Warnock.

Palace have suffered a difficult start to the new season losing two of their first three games, which has seen them take an early position in the bottom three of the Premier League.

Johnson will only add to an attack which has already scored five goals but the main problem seems to be at the back of the team, with eight goals conceded in the division so far.

Johnson’s return creates positives and will raise spirits but it’s important results improve quickly.
