Newcastle to offload one of club's biggest earners - to the Championship

Jonas Gutierrez will be offered out to Football League clubs, say reports.

According to the Newcastle Evening Chronicle, the Argentine is set to be offloaded to the Chamionship on loan.

And it makes sense financially, when Gutierrez hasn't trained with the club since pre-season and spent some of last campaign on loan at Norwich City.

But the 31-year-old's situation at Newcastle United is one that is shrouded in mystery.

Some believe he has been mistreated at St James' Park, while others can't make their mind up due to the lack of noise the club is making about the issue.

The problem for the Magpies is that Gutierrez is one of their highest earners. A loan move may solve that problem even if a club offers to pay a portion of his wages.

It may be tough to persuade takers, however, as he did not impress during his time at Norwich and has not played competitive football for several months.

The Football League loan window will open next week, giving Newcastle another opportunity to offload the Argentine, though the lack of bidders in August suggests he may have to remain on the books on Tyneside.

Should he stay at the club, it will be interesting to see whether Alan Pardew decides to bring him back into the first-team fold.

The odds are unlikely, as he will reportedly be entitled to a new deal if he plays a handful of games for the Magpies.

Should Newcastle get rid of Gutierrez?
