Manchester United morning news: Hummels dream over, Scholes wants Rooney in midfield

Mats Hummels 2 Germany

A round up of news stories this morning about Manchester United.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Manchester United have given up on their hopes of signing Mats Hummels from Borussia Dortmund.

The German defender has been strongly linked with a move to the club throughout this past summer.

United reportedly believe that Dortmund won’t consider any deal for Hummels for at least the next two transfer windows.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has suggested Wayne Rooney should be playing in midfield for England.

Rooney scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot as England defeated Norway earlier this week.

“It is a radical solution and one I would propose just for the Switzerland qualifier on Monday, but I would play Wayne Rooney in midfield,” said Scholes.

High profile Manchester United transfer target Arturo Vidal has suffered another knee injury.

Vidal had to withdraw from a training session ahead of Chile’s game against Mexico.

He will now undergo a series of tests before returning to Italy to receive any required treatment at Juventus.
