Lost your keys? Here are some of the first places you should look….
Everybody has lost their keys at some point in their lives. Be it rushing out of the house, shutting the door and immediately realizing you’ve left them inside, or being absolutely 100% sure you put them – there – only to find an empty surface or table, it’s an inevitability that is going to befall us all several times a year (unless you keep them chained around your neck…!).
We’ve teamed up with insurance experts Allianz Your Cover (www.yourcoverinsurance.co.uk) to bring you a guide to the best places to look when you have that kind-find-my-keys panic…and a quick check-up on the best policies to put in place for insuring against lock replacements and new keys.
Many of us have a little policy of our own for when we lose our keys. This usually starts with working backwards from where you were before, going through every space in the house that you had been previously.
Top five places to look
Keys belong in pockets, and often we absentmindedly put them in the wrong ones. Make sure you check the pockets of all your coats and jackets just in case you’ve left them in a mistaken place.
This sounds silly but it is a genuinely common place for keys to get lost when the mind is occupied by other things. Checking cupboards, fridges and shelves is essential.
Flat surfaces beneath tables/cupboards
Any flat areas onto which keys might have fallen are top places to look – underneath chairs, down the back of skirting boards, behind tables or dressers.
Again, an unlikely place for keys to belong, but one where they can often be dropped or left without thinking. Make sure you think laterally when searching.
As well as pockets, keys belong in bags; check all your bags, handbags, gym bag, briefcase before declaring them lost: often we move keys around without being aware of our routine.
If you are locked out of the house or in for that matter, security and safety issues apply. Not only are you and your family vulnerable, so too is your identity, privacy and access to help and assistance. For added piece of mind, you can make changes to your home insurance policy to secure added cover and security in the difficult-to-handle situations. Allianz Your Cover offers 24 hour emergency assistance as an add on to its home insurance policy.
This includes cover of up to the first £500 towards emergency call outs for parts, labour and material when an accident occurs. With 24 hour access, immediate assistance is only a phone call away – so if you have lost your keys, become locked out of the house, or had a failure of electricity, heating or plumbing, then Allianz Your Cover can be called to come to your aid.
You will be provided with the insurer’s 24 hour home helpline number, which assures access and advice at any time of the day or night. This can bring peace of mind when worrying about all the other extras that come with these kind of incidents; it also means that you’ll be assured of getting things on the right track quickly and efficiently.
